Life Transitions
Each phase of your life brings new opportunities and challenges. Making big changes is part of life for many people. How we respond to these changes will determine what we take from them. If you can respond to them with flexibility and responsiveness, you can enjoy these changes and live them with a sense of purpose and enjoyment.
But it’s not always that easy. When a transition takes you beyond your ability to cope, you can end up feeling uncertain, stuck and like you can’t move forward. Your sense of safety has been taken away from you and you are struggling to get back to your normal self in this difficult situation.
Transitions, good and bad, can cause stress.
We are creatures of habit. We find comfort in repetitiveness and predictability. When a change brings uncertainty with it, we can feel out our depth and like we will not be able to find comfort again. This can happen if the transition was not a voluntary one, such as being laid off. But it can also happen even if it was something you chose and which is supposed to make your life better, such as the birth of a child or relocating to a new city.
Getting support and building resources to manage your emotions can help you to recover from the stress and enjoy your new situation to it’s fullest extent.
Making important changes or dealing with them is an important part of growing as a person. It can be an opportunity to make better choices and improvements. But this doesn’t mean that you have to do it alone, or that you should do it alone. Reach out for support if you need help.
Life transitions include:
- Career changes
- Marriage or divorce
- Becoming a parent
- Dealing with an empty nest
- Relocating
- Spiritual Pursuits
To help you to move through these transitions, one of the first things we can do is to pause and notice where you are, where you’ve been, and where you’d like to be. Bringing more awareness to these facts can help you move through the transition more deliberately and with more ease
