Hoarding
If you have been struggling with hoarding, it might be very difficult to reach out for help. You can recognise that your accumulation is out of hand but it is difficult to stop. It feels like you’re being asked to let go of everything that makes you feel safe. Feeling misunderstood and isolated from others makes things worse. Compulsively accumulating objects is a symptom of something something deeper. A deep sense of vulnerability often underpins such beahviour.
Therapy is a non-judgemental space where you can talk about things that feel unsafe and that you might not be able to talk about anywhere else. You will not be told to just “get over it” or “get rid of things”.
A skilled therapist can recognise that the difficulty goes beyond the overt behaviour. In therapy, we will talk about what lies beneath the drive to accumulate. Once we get more clear on this, we can take steps to overcome it.
In therapy, you will gain tangible tools that you can use to manange your emotions and cope with the challenging feelings that you are dealing with.
